Nate’s Leather Co. Inc. was founded in 1958 by Nate Chernoff. The company specialized in the manufacturer and sale of civilian leather clothing until 1968, when the company began manufacturing the Chicago Police Jacket. Today, Nate’s Leather Co. Inc. is the premier provider of leather police clothing to the Chicago Police Department as well as Law Enforcement and Correction Agencies nationwide.

The primary goal of Nate’s is to provide for all UNIFORM needs of any law enforcement agency, from Jackets to bullet proof vest. Edwards Glove Company Inc.

February 14th, 2010 | Comments Off | Posted in 123 triad

The J. Edwards Glove Company began operations in a small backyard manufacturing plant located in Appleton, Wisconsin sometime in the early 1940s. John Edwards was a tradesman who saw the need for a better glove for his industrys workers, a glove that could meet their need for hand protection with durability, comfort and fit. His company set these ideals as their goal for manufacturing locally a quality glove for area industries, while reducing cost by using Wisconsin tanned Buckskin leather.

Buckskin is considered to be heavy weight deer or elk leather, of which there was an abundant supply from local tanneries. Local power utility lineworkers quickly saw the value in his products and soon became the main market for his products. The company increased their product offerings by adding leather protectors for rubber insulating gloves as well as different styles and designs of their all leather work gloves.

Celtic Sheepskin Co.

February 13th, 2010 | Comments Off | Posted in 123 triad

The Celtic Sheepskin Co. began way back in the mid 1970’s selling sheepskin Ugg Boots and assorted leather goods. Formerly known as Hide & Feet and then The Original UGG Co, they licensed their UK UGG trademark to Deckers Outdoor Corporation in 1996 and re-branded as The Celtic Sheepskin Co. Celtic Sheepskin has always worked hard to minimise its impact on the environment, actively designing and manufacturing many of its products within the UK, and choosing natural, sustainable and organic fibres over toxic, synthetic and non-biodegradable materials.

They promote recycling throughout the business, use fully recycled packaging and offer a carbon neutral delivery service. In 2008 Celtic was awarded an On Line Green Award (OLGA) in recognition of its commitment to promoting socially responsible online trading. Their boots are branded as Celt Boots and are handmade in their own factory in Newquay, Cornwall using 100% real sheepskins.

The Leathersellers’ Company

February 12th, 2010 | Comments Off | Posted in 123 triad

The Leathersellers’ Company is one of the ancient Livery Companies of the City of London, ranked fifteenth in the order of precedence. It was founded by royal charter in 1444 with authority to control the sale of leather within the City. The Company no longer has this regulatory role, and instead devotes its energies to support for charity, education and the British leather trade.

The Leathersellers’ Company is made up of 150 liverymen and a variable number of freemen. There are three main routes into the freedom: by apprenticeship, patrimony (i.e. if the candidate’s father is a member) or by purchase at the Company’s invitation. Freemen are eligible for election onto the livery, and once on the livery, a member may be invited to serve higher office within the Company.

A company that is not looking forward and moving into new areas is a company that is stagnating and can expect to be overtaken by its competitors. The phrase “develop or die” has never been so dominant in their industry. The recent history of UK and other Western leather industries is full of examples of those companies that recognised this too late.

UK LEATHER

February 10th, 2010 | Comments Off | Posted in 123 triad

UK LEATHER aims to facilitate the process of identifying and contacting ‘UK based manufacturing facilities that employ people in the manufacture of leather in the UK’. The UK leather industry has a long-standing reputation for quality, consistency and reliability. This is underpinned by a comprehensive and constantly evolving system of regulations and voluntary industry agreements and accreditation systems.

The leather industry utilises hides and skins which would, if the industry did not exist to process them, create an enormous waste disposal problem with the attendant health hazards. Leather is a renewable natural resource, if leather was not produced, it would have to be replaced be synthetic materials derived from non-renewable resources.
